BEST Lean Six Sigma

training and certification

There are many versions of Lean Six Sigma

A lot has developed since Bill Smith developed the Six Sigma metric in 1986 at Motorola to have a metric to meet the need for exponential improvement in Quality. The process capability index has been used in Japan for process analysis since the 1970s.

At the same time as Motorola developed and deployed Six Sigma at Motorola Six Sigma Research Institute, other companies in the United States were developing their own approaches to utilize statistical tools in their problem-solving methodologies. In 1990 Compaq invested heavily to  develop its own methodology as did IBM.

A common Six Sigma body of knowledge was developed in 1997-99 by American Society for Quality (ASQ). This program was launched globally in 2000 with public courses offered in Europe. Most of the Lean Six Sigma courses offered today have their roots in this program.

Dr. Gregory H. Watson started Business Excellence Solutions in the USA and he was the original designer of Six Sigma training for the American Society for Quality when he was Vice President of Research in 1997-1998. Dr. Watson was the lead trainer for its introduction, and he was instrumental in developing both of the ASQ Black Belt and Master Black Belt certification programs. Dr. Watson is the only Westerner to be awarded a Deming Medal by the Union of Japanese Scientists and Engineers for promotion and dissemination of Japanese quality and productivity management methods. In addition to serving as President of ASQ, he also is a Past-President of the International Academy for Quality and has published over 12 books and 600 professional papers, videos and speeches.

The course content have been updated annually based on the developments in the methodology and needs of the companies.
